Dr. S. V. Hanagodimath
Chairman
Dr. S. V. Hanagodimath leads IIGD's academic direction and public programmes. He brings long experience in research, teaching, and policy engagement around inclusive development.
The Institute for Inclusive Growth and Development conducts rigorous, policy-relevant research on the structural barriers that prevent marginalised communities from participating fully in India's economic and social life. We work at the intersection of rural development, poverty reduction, education policy, and social inclusion, translating evidence into actionable recommendations for government, civil society, and the private sector.
We envision an India where every person, regardless of caste, gender, geography, or ability, has equal access to the opportunities and resources needed to lead a dignified and fulfilling life. IIGD aims to be the leading research institution in southern India for evidence-based policy on inclusive development, shaping programmes and policies that leave no community behind.
The Institute for Inclusive Growth and Development was founded in Dharwad, Karnataka, by a group of development economists, social scientists, and policy practitioners who recognised the need for an independent research institution rooted in the realities of rural and semi-urban India. Registered under the Karnataka Societies Registration Act, 1960, IIGD began its work with a small team conducting household surveys in the districts of northern Karnataka, building a body of evidence on the lived experiences of smallholder farmers, informal workers, and marginalised communities.
Over the years, IIGD has grown into a multi-disciplinary research institute with a portfolio spanning agricultural economics, education policy, social protection, and disability inclusion. The institute has forged partnerships with leading national and international research organisations, government agencies, and civil society groups, enabling it to conduct large-scale studies and influence policy at the state and national levels. Today, IIGD is recognised as a trusted voice on inclusive development in India, with a track record of research that has directly informed government programmes and legislative reforms.
